To get the most of the photo session follow these guidelines:

Choose a location

Think about where you want to get the photos. Head over to the locations page and get some guidance on this topic. I suggest at least 2 locations so you get a nice choose of backgrounds as well as a good selection of options. Chances are you will see a nice difference in type of images based on the location. I can do more than 2 locations if you would like. Depending on how close the locations are we can shoot everything in 1 day or split into 2 days.

Choose a time

This is important as the light changes by time and by season. My preferred time is early morning or late afternoon as I enjoy those light patterns best. Keep in mind time for travel and add about 25 minutes for setup.

Choose wardrobe

Once you have your location, be sure to match your wardrobe selections based on the location. Balance that decision against the type of images and perception of the image you are looking for. This is largely due to your personality. If your taking photos in the country, it’s best not to select a suit coat and tie, unless your personality would make this dichotomy make sense! Bottom line, pick a wardrobe that you are most comfortable in. I have no restrictions on how many wardrobe changes we do. The only thing to consider is how you will change based on the location. I don’t have a portable changing room, so think about how you will do wardrobe changes, in a car? bring a tent!!

Hair and Make-up

I suggest you find someone that can help you with this prior to the shoot. If you need someone, I can refer a few good options. Keep in mind the location may play havoc on the hair. If we pick a spot by the river and it’s windy out, we will have an additional challenge that you will want to have some hair accessories with you.

Props

These are excellent to include if you have something. It not only adds an element of who you are, but it makes for a more interesting photo and easier to pose. The added benefit is that it will make you more comfortable to have something that means something to you. Some suggestions:

  • do you play an instrument?
  • what sports are you into, can you bring a golf club, racket, football?
  • into cars? we can do with your car
  • into theater? a favorite costume from a past show
